Callum sat near Marcella and instantly noticed the sensation of magic rushing into him. It reminded him of the feeling of butterflies in his stomach, only these butterflies were much larger, all funneling in a spiral at once and brimming with power.

“Focus on one core at a time,” Quinn said as Callum tried to get settled.

Callum focused on his newest ability, Charge of the Shatterlight Bear. Where he had once had three fused Earth Affinity Shards, this number jumped to five. He received an additional Resilience Shard and five Might Shards. This meant that he now only needed Light Affinity and Empowerment of Might shards to upgrade the ability.

He shifted his attention to Gift of the Luminous Lance, which gained two Light Affinity Shards, leaving Callum needing just eight more to upgrade the ability.

“It really is too bad we can’t choose which shards the spring gives us,” Quinn said. “And none of us are anywhere near the Channeler Rank, so we don’t yet know how to sunder.”

“That’s what a shardcrafter is for,” Marcella said.

“I know. But imagine discovering a spring like this and being able to sunder shards and move them around. I’m just saying, that would be next level.”

Callum next focused on Empowerment of Zephyr Strike, one of the cores that had come with Fen. He gained a whopping seven Air Affinity Shards, but zero Deftness Shards.
